My 7a to 7p gig is wild! As a traveling teacher, I spend a decent chunk of my day rolling through hallways. During that time, I experience little brushes with fame. "Ms.Kendra, bonita!!" "Ms.-Ms.Spanish, hola!!" "I lub you Spanish teacher!!" "GATO, GATO, GATO - Ms. Kendrick I can say CAT in Spanish!!"
(Well, I'll be an uncle's monkey, that kid DID learn how to say cat in Spanish!)
It hardly seems possible that in a mere 30 mins, one time week, these children are learning a new language, but they are, learning it as fast as I can teach it. I wish second language acquisition was a priority in elementary school. No one doubts the short and long term gains from knowing more than one language, but no one funds it because it's not on the THE TEST (i.e. CRCT). So Sad :-(
Sure my red carpet is a dingy, off-white laminate tile and my beloved fans are short to the ground and typically have runny noses, but they're mine, and I love'em. I guess fame really is better than wealth.
